Calgary Rural Acreage Wedding Photographer

When I first met Dale & Azar, they told me that they were going to be having their wedding on Dale’s family’s property outside the city. They told me that Dale’s late father had spent much of his time making the gardens beautiful and they wanted to honour his memory by having their wedding there.

So I knew their wedding would be particularly personal and meaningful, and I couldn’t wait to capture their beautiful day.

And it was even more than I could have imagined. Their family property was an absolutely stunning backdrop for their ceremony. Their vows were heartfelt, the peach, gold, and coral colour palette was soft and romantic, and Dale & Azar’s love for each other was overflowing.

There were some traditional Persian elements to their wedding ceremony which you can read about below, including a honey tradition that used fresh honey from the family’s beehive! There was traditional dancing including a knife dance right before the cake cutting, and Azar tore up the dance floor all night with her family and friends. It was so fun and if I wasn’t working I would have been right out there with them!

Dale & Azar – thank you so much for including me in your beautiful wedding day. It has been such a pleasure getting to know you both and witnessing your deep love for one another. I absolutely love your story and I’m grateful that I get to be a part of telling it. Many congratulations and wishes for an incredible life together.

Dale & Azar incorporated a traditional Persian honey tradition into their ceremony. They each dipped a pinky finger into the honey and fed it to each other. This symbolizes the sweetness that they will bring to each other in their married life together. This honey had been harvested from the family’s beehive just a few days before the wedding! Honey Ceremony | Calgary Acreage WeddingCalgary Acreage WeddingCalgary Acreage WeddingCalgary Acreage Wedding

Creative Portrait Session with Joy | Calgary Lifestyle Photographer | Yoga Photographer | Calgary Portrait Photographer

This girl is one of the best! She’s smart, athletic, beautiful, and driven. She has a heart of gold and a personality to match. She’s that friend who’s not afraid to ask the hard questions and her friendship means the world to me. Joy has lived and worked abroad, is in the process of starting up her own nutrition business, and is turning the big 3-0 this year (welcome to the club friend! It’s not so bad over here!)

So she wanted to commemorate the occasion by taking some creative portraits by frolicking in fields of wheat and canola, and by doing yoga in the middle of the East Village bridge. She is always up for anything that I suggest, and she comes with a bag of props and stylish clothes to add colour and personality to her photos.

Oh and guys.. this gorgeous girl is single. She’s looking for a great guy with an adventurous spirit, who loves Jesus, takes care of himself with food and exercise, and who loves laughing and being a little bit silly. So if you think you have what it takes – send me a note and I’ll put you two in touch if you pass my screening process:)

Love you Joy! Can’t wait for our next hangout time:)

Calgary Winter Club Wedding Photographer

I arrived as the bride and bridesmaids were finishing up their makeup and hair, grooving to the sounds of the Backstreet Boys and S Club 7. They were getting ready to party on the most amazing day of Megan’s life – their friend and sister.

After a flurry of tulle and hairspray, Megan’s mom helped button her up, and then watched as Megan went to see her daddy in her wedding dress. His reaction was absolutely priceless and I’m sure that was a moment for him that stood completely still.

The guests were seated, and Megan walked arm in arm down the aisle with her dad to the sound of “What a Wonderful World”. Dave received his bride with joy and they made their love official with vows, a set of rings, and a spectacular dip kiss.

We headed out to Nose Hill Park for our formal photos. The skies were angry and were threatening rain. We hid under umbrellas and I watched as a wall of water quickly approached. It poured for several minutes, and then it went away! Lightning was striking in every direction but we stayed (mostly) dry and finished the majority of our photos outside. On the way back to the Winter Club the rain poured so hard that I hydroplaned a few times over big puddles. But nothing could spoil their wedding day and these two wore their smiles through it all.

The reception at the Calgary Winter Club had a few unique features including awesome candy, childhood photos, grandparents ripping up the dance floor, and LOTS of Smirnoff Ice. You can read more about that as you go through the photos.

Dave & Megan – you guys are awesome! I had such a great time with you on your wedding day and Megan I especially loved your awesome dance moves to Sir Mix-a-Lot:) I hope you have an incredible honeymoon and an even better happily ever after.

And… we got caught in the rain at the tail end of our photo session and on the drive back to the Calgary Winter Club we could barely see out the windows because it was coming down so hard. Wedding Photos in the RainSo we took a few more photos inside and the bridal party enjoyed a champagne toast.

I love how Dave & Megan decided to display their custom photo guest book! It suited their decor perfectly.

The tables were numbered with photos of the bride and groom at the corresponding ages. Such a cute idea! I love that they both have a Santa picture at age 6. Table Numbers with Childhood Photos of Bride and Groom

This kissing wheel game was so funny. As you’ll see later on in the photos, if someone spun a 4 they had to chug a Smirnoff Ice. It turned into a little competition of who could do it the fastest and I believe that the sister of the groom took top place! Wedding Details

While they were planning their wedding, Dave & Megan casually asked all of their friends and family what their wedding songs were (to get ideas for their own wedding song). And during dinner all of those wedding songs were played and the couples were invited to the dance floor as it played. It was really beautiful.

Then all the couples were invited to the dance floor for a “Generations Dance” or “Anniversary Dance”. The DJ begins asking couples to sit down if they’ve been married for less than 24 hours, then 1 year, 5 years, and so on, until the longest married couple is the last one standing.

Knox Mountain Engagement | Kelowna Wedding Photographer

Willow trees, lake and mountain views, gorgeous sunsets and warm temperatures (30 degrees – I love you). It doesn’t get any better than this.

While I was in Kelowna at the end of June I met up with C&G to shoot their engagement session at Knox mountain – an incredible natural park in the middle of the city. We spent the evening laughing, getting to know each other, and chasing the sunset to the top of the mountain. There were a few moments that I actually gasped because the light was just that incredible.

Thanks you two for an amazing evening – I can’t wait for your wedding at Emerald Lake later this year!

*And just a note that while I am based in Calgary, I am available to take on several weddings and sessions in Kelowna, Summerland, Penticton, and the surrounding area each summer.*

Earl Grey Golf Club Wedding Photographer | Bar None Ranches | St James Chapel Wedding

It was a rainy day in May, when Greg and Angie stood in front of family and friends and said “I Do.” They were married at the gorgeous and unique St James Chapel at Bar None Ranches. It is the oldest Catholic church in the Calgary area (built around 1903) and was brought to the Ranches and restored in 2007.

We took photos around the beautiful property and inside the chapel before heading over to their reception at Earl Grey Golf Club. They had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony before dinner, and then partied the night away with laughter and dancing.

Greg & Angie – it was such a pleasure to be a part of your big day. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness!
