“Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing…”

I once again had the privilege of photographing the Ginn Family in their home. Cleo has grown lots since her newborn session and her sweet blue eyes just melt my heart. I’m sure she’ll soon be able to keep up with her big brother Tommy. That’s probably a really scary thought for her parents though, hey Tom & Shauna? Tommy is one of the most energetic, outgoing little guys I’ve ever met. He brings me such joy, and he even let me throw snow at his face at the end of our session as he squealed with delight.

It was Shauna’s request that we could somehow incorporate her grandmother’s old piano into the photos. It was built in 1908 and has been in her family for 3 generations. Now, it is showing its wear and is ready to be passed along to a new family. This piano has been instrumental (<–see what I did there? I think Tom’s humour is rubbing off on me…) in shaping Shauna into lovely musician with a heart for God and for leading others into worship. I’m so blessed to be able to call this family my friends. Thank you all once again for allowing me into your home to capture these memories for you. Much love, Carlin

Winter Engagement Photos at Edworthy Park

If you live in Calgary then you know that one really can’t plan on our weather. We can have sweltering heat in October or a blizzard in July. While our winters are typically pretty cold, we can have weeks of nothing but brown slush leftover from melting snow and dirty cars. Not exactly the most picturesque winter scenery.

So when I woke up to a winter wonderland of fresh snow just in time for Warren & Sarah’s engagement session – I squealed with delight. And even though we were all freezing our tushies off, we had the best time and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face all day.

Warren & Sarah are so natural together. They are playful and romantic and it was obvious to me that they are each others best friend. They met a few years back playing softball, where their sporty friendship blossomed into love. Warren proposed on that softball field where they used to play with the most stunning pink engagement ring. Now they are planning a spring wedding in Calgary on the anniversary of their first date! How amazing is that? I cannot wait to see these two tie the knot. With Sarah being a wedding planner, I’m sure their wedding will be absolutely impeccable.

Thanks for a great afternoon you two! I loved every minute of our time together and I can’t wait to do it again (hopefully with sunshine and warmth this time)!

Calgary Bride Photographer

I absolutely LOVE shooting weddings. I thrive on chaos and spontaneity, and produce some of my best work under wedding day pressure. However, there is typically not a lot of wiggle room in a wedding timeline. So whenever I have the opportunity to photograph a bride on a random day, and not have to stick to a schedule, I jump at the opportunity.

On a cold and foggy morning, Brynn and I headed out to a nearby field to capture some bridal portraits. We had no time constraints (other than making sure we didn’t get frostbite). We got to just play and create together, and Brynn got to wear her gorgeous wedding gown a second time. These types of photoshoots are sometimes called “Trash the Dress” or “Day After” sessions. They are completely customizable and allow us so much creative control.

And why not? You spend so much time and money on picking out the perfect wedding dress. Why should it sit around in your closet collecting dust? I’m always happy to photograph brides and couples after the wedding is over.

These creative sessions can happen in some awesome locations that you would never have time to go on the wedding day. We can shoot at the top of a mountain, climb into a canyon, or just play around in the city and get your dress a little dirtier than you did on your wedding day.

Central Park New York Couples Portraits

One of the most amazing things about the photography community is that you have friends wherever you go. On my recent trip to NYC, I was able to connect with a New Jersey photographer, Lauren Ashley, and her boyfriend PJ for some Central Park New York Couples Portraits. We met at the incredible Bethesda Fountain & Terrace and spent some time together on a beautiful November day.

The air was filled with accordion music and the streets were lined with horse-drawn carriages. Street performers breakdanced for the crowds, and Buddhist monks wished blessings on those that passed by. It was an amalgamation of culture and history that is the beauty of New York City.

Lauren & PJ were so stunning together and they drew the attention of all the tourists in Central Park. Everyone snapped a few photos behind me as we laughed and danced our way through the gorgeous autumn light.

Emerald Lake Elopement Photos

It was a chilly fall day in Calgary when we made the drive out to Emerald Lake. As we ventured further into the mountains the snow began to fall, and when we arrived at Emerald Lake Lodge, the lake was barely visible due to the fog and snow. Gillian kept warm and cozy in her room as she had her hair and makeup done.  Her mom and grandmother looked on with excitement as they painted each others nails.

Everyone bundled up with blankets and covered themselves with umbrellas. The snow softly fell as Chris watched his radiant bride walk towards him and become his wife. Exuberant joy beamed across the faces of the family members that were there to witness.

After they said their I Do’s, it was time to explore! We spent some time capturing their love in front of the incredible, your-jaw-will-drop-cause-it’s-so-amazing lake, and then we ventured over to the Natural Bridge. To say that I was in awe of the beauty of this place would be such an understatement. It is truly a spectacular sight and I would welcome any opportunity to visit again.

Chris & Gillian – thank you both SO much for the privilege of getting to know you this year and capturing the love that you share. I hope that you can look back at these photos many years from now and be transported back to the love and joy that marked the beginning of the rest of your lives. Much love, Carlin
