East Village Engagement Photos

I first met Travis & Chelsea last summer at Chris & Kristina’s Wedding at Apple Creek Golf Course in Airdrie. They were both in the bridal party and we had such a fun day together making memories with their entire group of friends. I was thrilled when they contacted me to photograph their wedding this fall, and we spent a gorgeous summer night strolling around East Village and laughing until our stomachs hurt;)

These two randomly met one summer during a camping trip with their respective friends. Somehow they ended up exchanging numbers and several weeks later Travis asked Chelsea out on a date, and the rest is history!

Travis & Chelsea – thank you for rolling with all the crazy things I asked you to do and for embracing the awkward! You guys seriously rocked this out and I’m so excited to do it again in a couple months as you become husband and wife. Much Love, Carlin

Glencoe Club Wedding Photographer | Arts Common Wedding

One of the hardest parts of photographing a wedding is writing the blog post. Not because I don’t have anything to say about the gorgeous weddings that I photograph, or about my brides and grooms, but because I could ramble on and on about how great they are because they’re just. that. awesome.

Seriously. How do I sum up a wedding – the bringing together of two lives, two families, into just a few short words? How can I describe how amazing it is that these families open up their homes and lives to me? How can I begin to describe just how caring and gracious my clients are to care about me and my wellbeing on their wedding day?

When people first learn that I am a wedding photographer, one of the most common questions I get asked is, “do you deal with a lot of bridezillas?”

And I laugh. Not because it’s true, but because nothing could be further from the truth.

Sarah & Warren are two of the most kind and thoughtful people that I have ever had the privilege of meeting. Their wedding day was filled with so much love and joy that it literally burst out of them and spilled into the beaming smiles you’ll see in their photos. I’m sure that their cheeks were hurting by the end of the night.

The look in Warren’s eyes as he watched Sarah walk down the aisle at the Engineered Air Theatre was one of pure admiration. They read their vows, the minister helped them freshen their breath, and they had their first kiss as husband and wife:)

We took photos in downtown Calgary, where we were stopped numerous times. A few people snapped pictures, one guy took a selfie with the bridal party, and a woman literally stopped in her tracks to tell Sarah that she was the most beautiful bride she had ever seen.

Warren & Sarah entered their reception at the Glencoe Club rocking out to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I really like you.” The food was incredible, the speeches were hilarious and heartfelt, and the music kept the party going strong all night long.

Warren & Sarah – it was my absolute privilege and honour to spend your wedding day with you and document these memories. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to tell your story!

Much love, Carlin

“We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there too.”
-Kristen Martz

Growing up going to summer camp, I fell in love with riding horses. Even though I’ve lived most of my life in the city, there’s something about horses that calls to my country soul. On particularly hard days, I wish that I could just get on a horse and ride into the horizon; feeling the wind across my face and the rhythm of a smooth gallop under my feet.

I was so thrilled when Sam asked me to photograph her with her horse, Bruno. She has had him since he was a couple years old. They’ve grown up together. And while he bears the scars of being mistreated as a foal, Sam has gained Bruno’s trust and has cared for him so well.

Bruno has his own little barn on their property. If he starts to feel unsettled, Sam will take him in there and he instantly calms down. She whispers into his ear, feeds him from her hand, and blows kisses into his cheeks. He is loved. He is home.

Nathan & Emily are getting married tomorrow! They’ve spent a lot of time together swing dancing, so their engagement photo outfits were just perfect. Nathan teaches swing dancing at the University of Alberta and I’m pretty sure that they’re going to have the most fun and epic first dance at their wedding:)

These two are so sweet together, and they couldn’t stop smiling for our entire session together at Sandy Beach Park. I have no doubt that their smiles will be even bigger tomorrow when they will become husband and wife!

Heritage Park Wedding Photographer

This past Father’s Day, I was so honoured to witness two very special people tie the knot. I have known and photographed both Hannah & Austin in their individual families many times over my career. Which made this my first wedding in 10 seasons that I knew both the bride and the groom and their families. And it was an absolute joy.

The happy tears started early in the day with the grandmothers watching all the girls getting ready, and continued with Hannah’s first look with her dad. Austin overflowed with emotion upon first glimpse of his bride at the end of the aisle, and I get a little choked up myself as I’ve been editing the photo of Austin’s parents cry as they watch their son marry his love.

Hannah & Austin – I can’t even begin to tell you how blessed I was to have been a part of your wedding day. You are both such incredible people and I’m so excited that now you will be even more incredible because you are together! I can’t wait to see what kind of awesome things God has for you in the future.

Much Love, Carlin
