From the very first time I travelled abroad there has been an ever-growing and unquenchable thirst to explore and experience different cultures. It’s more than just seeing varied landscapes, it’s a desire to learn about people and how they express fundamental truths of life in different ways. While my bank account doesn’t allow me to travel as much as I wish I could, I am honoured to be invited to photograph weddings of different cultures and all the uniqueness and beauty that they bring.
George & Youstina met in Egypt as children, which you can read about here. Their families come from a Coptic Orthodox tradition, and it was my absolute joy to document such a sacred wedding. Four priests led the traditional ceremony, offering prayers and blessings. They adorned the couple with royal robes and crowns, and anointed them with holy oil. Deacons, guests and family recited prayers and let out shouts of joy as they witnessed the sacred union. Each element was done deliberately and with reverence, and it was fascinating to witness.
After George & Youstina were joined in marriage, we spent a beautiful afternoon taking photographs at St Patricks Island before joining their guests at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. The Crystal Ballroom was lavishly decorated with flowers and gold, and the happy couple were seated at a sweetheart table surrounded by candlelight.
George & Youstina – thank you both so very much for allowing me into your lives and into your family. Thank you for putting your trust in me, and for letting me see what a beautiful love the two of you have for one another. I will never forget your wedding day nor the kindness you have shown.
