Calgary Family Photography – William’s 1st Birthday!

“You can’t make everyone happy. You are not a donut”

This handsome little boy turned ONE a few months ago! I had the pleasure of meeting him shortly after he was born (which reminds me, I haven’t posted images from his newborn session yet!), and then again a year later. William is a determined little boy, keeping parents Mark & Courtney on their toes! I absolutely love getting to see my families grow and change. In the day to day of raising kids, things seem to move so slowly. But when you look back a year, or even a month sometimes and see how fast they have grown and how much more their personality has developed, it makes me treasure the beauty of photography that much more.

William had a donut themed first birthday party, so instead of a cake, we did a little donut smash at the end of our time together! What could be better than a warm summer day, bare feet and sprinkle donuts?

Knox United Church Wedding Photos

Berton & Jennifer had dreamt of this day for a long time, and were overjoyed to finally become Mr & Mrs! From the first moment that Jennifer saw a bride looking back at her in the mirror, she was overcome with emotion. I could literally see Jennifer’s heart bursting out of her face. Berton came to see Jennifer in the basement of Knox United Church just before the ceremony began. They didn’t see each other, but held hands around a door and shared a few precious, emotional moments together.

Jennifer was escorted down the grand aisle by her mother, and, upon reaching the altar, removed her shoes and stood barefoot in a tray of sand. Having always dreamed of having a beach wedding, she was able to have a small part of that dream within her traditional church wedding! The couple shared their heartfelt vows and were pronounced husband and wife.

After our outdoor formal photos, in which we got a little bit of every kind of weather, the couple made their grand entrance into the ballroom at Al Azhar Shrine Centre. Family and friends were asked to sign a little wooden heart and place it in a keepsake frame as a guest book. Berton and Jennifer were surrounded with so much love, as demonstrated with every toast and speech, and even in the roasts and embarrassing memories.

Calgary Engagement Photography | Queenie & Sonny

Queenie & Sonny met in Calgary when they were both in University. She was drawn to his magnetic personality, He to her huge heart and exuberant kindness. Together, their tenacious motivation and zest for life have taken them to accomplish monumental goals in each of their lives. They are each other’s best friends, biggest supports, and cheerleaders.

These two live out of town, so the first time that I got to meet them in person was the week before their wedding. We met at Nose Hill Park just as the storm clouds were rolling in. About 2 minutes into the shoot, the wind picked up and hard drops of rain pelted us from multiple directions. Queenie & Sonny’s response? LAUGHTER! Nothing could discourage these two from fully embracing life and enjoying each other, even in the middle of a storm.

Queenie & Sonny, THANK YOU both SO much for entrusting me to capture these memories for you. You are both incredible people and I’m beyond thankful to have met you both! Your energy and love of life is contagious!

Ah, summer! When the days get shorter and it feels like midnight at 5 o’clock, I love looking back at images from the summer. I remember it’s warmth and golden sunsets, and evenings spent wandering around beautiful parks with awesome couples.

I met Berton & Jennifer at Pearce Estate Park on one of these beautiful summer nights. We chased the setting sun and found some amazing little spots to take photos. Berton & Jennifer were even game for cuddling on a fallen tree and we were rewarded with the most incredible light.

Lake Sundance Wedding Photographer

“I’m much more me when I’m with you.”

Bryan & Michelle had an absolutely perfect day on which to become husband and wife. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the trees were alive with lilacs and the smell of spring. Michelle put on her incredible gown, instantly transforming her into a Grecian goddess. She made her way down the pathway at Inverness Gazebo with her parents at her side, as her groom Bryan smiled from ear to ear as he caught his first glimpse of his beautiful bride.

Michelle & Bryan had some of their closest friends stand beside them in their wedding party, which was such a fun group to photograph! We spent the afternoon laughing and playing in the fields, enjoying a gorgeous spring afternoon at Fish Creek Park.

All their guests greeted us at Lake Sundance, where we enjoyed an amazing meal and listened to stories about the bride & groom from the people who know them best. With the toasts and speeches come some of my favourite moments – laughter, tears, and sometimes a few embarrassing childhood memories.

Bryan & Michelle – thank you so much for having me along to capture your beautiful wedding day. I wish you both a lifetime of joy that grows stronger with each passing day. Much love, Carlin
